Vale Dr Patricia Kailis AM, OBE
Post on: April 22, 2020
It is with much sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our Patron, Dr Patricia Kailis on Friday, April 17 2020.
Dr Kailis was an inaugural member of the Fremantle Hospital Medical Research Foundation (now Spinnaker HRF), a position she held for 10 years before accepting the invitation to be joint patron of the Foundation in 2008 alongside Professor Barry Marshall. Patricia retained this role until her passing and the Foundation will be forever grateful for the many significant contributions she made over such an extended period of time. This support included the establishment of the Kailis Scholarships with the University of Notre Dame for higher degree research in the areas of health and medical science and sponsorship of the Foundation’s annual awards event. Patricia enjoyed attending these events each year as she was deeply invested in the encouragement and development of new research and researchers and was always keen to engage in conversation with the successful grant recipients.
Dr Kailis’s commitment to our Foundation, to science, medicine and the encouragement of new research and researchers has had a tremendous and enduring legacy for Western Australia. She was well regarded for her work in genetic counselling for neurological and neuromuscular disorders, as well as her distinguished business acumen as a pioneer of the local seafood industry and the establishment of Kailis Pearls with her late husband Michael.
We extend our thoughts and deepest sympathies to Patricia’s children Maria, George, Amanda and Alex and to all of her extended family.
