Our Story

Solutions seeded by locals who care

First founded in 1996 in part by Warren Jones, whose vision was to realise a research foundation that benefitted the health and wellbeing of local residents, the Fremantle Hospital Medical Research Foundation awarded its first grants in 1999 following a three-year capital campaign to ensure the sustainability of an annual grant program. In 2016, following an expanded partnership with Fiona Stanley Hospital, the Foundation was renamed Spinnaker, a nod to Jones, the founding chair, who was a local resident of Fremantle and the manager of the successful Americans Cup syndicate in 1983.

Investment in game-changing discoveries

Guided by the needs of the community, and advised by our specialist scientific committees, we want to back promising pioneering research, game-changing equipment and other transformational solutions.

Your impact

We rely on our generous donors to fund research that seeks to better understand critical health issues for our local community, knowing that it will have a global impact. We know that better research means better health, and we strive to fund the next great discovery.
